About

Kids Tri NC is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing multisport activities for youth in North Carolina. Founded in 2012 to produce the North Carolina Multisport Expo and Conference at Duke University, the organization also hosted youth triathlon clinics in conjunction with the Expo. We produced the Expo again in 2013 and as well as two days of youth triathlon clinics. That same year, we also produced the inaugural Tar Heel Youth Triathlon in Chapel Hill in partnership with Triangle Multisport. As we narrowed our focus to triathlon clinics and races for youth, we changed the name of our organization to Kids Tri NC.

Since then, we’ve expanded the Tar Heel Youth Triathlon to a 3-race series, with two races in Chapel Hill (Homestead Aquatic Center and Briar Chapel Community), and Cary, North Carolina. We’ve also hosted triathlon clinics with Olympian Sheila Taormina and other USAT-certified youth coaches, including Dave Williams, Monette Williams, and Paul Bloom.

Our mission is to promote youth fitness and fun through multisport activities.

Our vision is to increase the number of youth involved in multisport in the State of North Carolina.

Proceeds from our events support local youth development and sports programs including Girls on the Run of the Triangle, Be Loud! Sophie Foundation, Triangle Bike Works and the University of North Carolina Triathlon Club. We also provide financial assistance to participate in our races and clinics for kids who could not otherwise participate.

My kids are not experienced racers…so this was an awesome intro for them….[My daughter] kept talking about how the ‘red shirt grown-ups’ were instrumental to her triathlon success by tying her shoes, putting her helmet on the right way (it was backwards out of the transition!), and cheering.  Great job, red shirt grown-ups!

Thank you for a great experience!  As a parent watching, I appreciated the extra support in the transition area and the whole event seemed to run very smoothly.  I hope both my son and daughter can do it next year!

I can tell that everyone there loved the family environment and all the fun you and your team provided to all of us. Outstanding work!

Our girls loved the race and were super happy all day!  I personally thought it was the best youth race yet.  It was so organized and the transition group was really awesome.

This was our very first race in NC, and it has left a great impression. The race was well planned, plenty of helpful info online, the maps were spot on, and your volunteers were amazing. Great thanks for taking kids’ safety as the top priority and for laying out a well-marked race course. We will surely do our best to return to NC for more races…huge thanks to you…as you made it all run like a well-oiled machine.

This is a great race series for kids. All 3 events are well prepared, well-staffed, and fun for the kids. Providing the ‘compete in all 3 races and get a prize’ is an extra added incentive that the kids enjoy!

The event was well organized and managed. I didn’t see any difference between this one and any adult tri’s I have participated in. The atmosphere was great, it was very inspiring to see kids do their best competing.
